There are 116,599 small businesses registered in the Mountain State, making up nearly 95.7 percent of all employers. The U.S. Small Business Administration’s West Virginia District Office is here to help make your journey up the stairs of starting or expanding your small business easier.
Getting your business up and running or expanding it to the next level means taking the stairs instead of riding the elevator. That is why I’m excited to welcome you to the 2016 U.S. Small Business Administration’s West Virginia Resource Guide – an all-inclusive source of information for starting and growing a small business.
In FY2015, the SBA guaranteed an excess of $35.5 million in loans for West Virginia small businesses contributing to retaining and creating 1,550 jobs. The office trained 1,070 WV small businesses on how to do business with the federal government and assisted 5,052 clients through customized training events throughout the state.
SBA’s Administrator, Maria Contreras-Sweet has reframed SBA to stand for Smart, Bold and Accessible. Smart: harnessing the power of technology to bring the SBA fully into the 21st century. We are implementing technology to connect lenders with small businesses and entrepreneurs. Bold: redoubling our efforts to fill gaps in the capital markets. Our Administrator is on Capitol Hill pushing back on laws and limits that are outdated and stand in the way of progress. Accessible: actively seeking diverse fund managers committed to making investments where capital gaps are widest. This means putting a magnifying glass on areas where gaps in capital formation are the widest.
The West Virginia District Office stands behind the Administrator in her journey to making the agency Smarter, Bolder and more Accessible. Every day we work to improve the economic impact of our state by increasing revenue and creating jobs.
